INTRODUCTION TO MASTER DOCUMENTS

A Master Document combines separate documents (separate files) so that the separate documents act as if they were one document.

For example, a book may be created by writing each chapter in a separate document and then creating a Master Document to combine the separate documents into one book. Different people may work separately on different chapters (on different documents).

Templates are extremely helpful with Master Documents for standardization, for saving time, and for having less chance of errors. (See Templates below).

"How To" Tutorials For Master Documents

Below are "How To" tutorials for Master Documents. You can read a description of the tutorial or go directly to the tutorial itself..

Create A Master Document

This tutorial creates separate documents that represent chapters in a book. A Master Document is created that coordinates “separate chapters” to be one “book”. The “book” can be printed, has a Table Of Contents, an Index, and numbered pages.

Master Document For 'My Cook Book'

This tutorial writes a Cook Book. Each chapter is written as an individual document. A Master Document is created that has the complete Cook Book with a Table Of Contents, an index, and numbered pages. Also, in this tutorial there is a section on the Navigator feature that allows you to change the sequence of chapters in any book that is created by a Master Document.

Templates

It is critical that certain things be standardized in the individual documents that get combined by a Master Document. This tutorial explains the basics of creating a template. The template created and saved by this tutorial can be used by the My Cook Book tutorial.
